British Masters Road Relay Championships

- 20th Feb 2015

The BMAF Road Relay Championships are being held in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham on Saturday 16 May. Stockport Harriers have entered teams in each of the last three years and will do so this year for any age groups for which there is sufficient interest.

The relay events are between 3-6 stages, depending on the gender and age group. Each stage is 3 miles and is set on an undulating tarmac route in the park. The event has an excellent atmosphere and a number of our local rivals, including East Cheshire Harriers, Wilmslow RC and Manchester Harriers, usually enter teams.

Unlike last year, when the Great Manchester Run was held the following day, there are not any major races being held locally that same weekend. Provided that we can identify enough interested runners, the club will submit entries for all groups, and will coordinate car pools.  As long as you are at least 35 years old on 16 May, and are a first claim SHAC member, you are eligible. As this is an open championship, you don’t have to be a member of a Vets Club.

These are the championships being contested, the number of stages (participants per team) in each, and the start time:

Championship Stages Start Time
Women 35-44 4 10.30a
Women 45-54 3 10.30am
Women 55-64 3 10.30am
Women 65+ 3 10.30am
Men 75+ 3 10.30am
Men 55-64 3 12.15pm
Men 65-74 3 12.15pm
Men 35-44 6 2pm
Men 45-54 4 2pm

Runners from older groups are eligible to run in a younger group, but not vice versa. So if we are short one or two runners in a younger group, we could still submit a team for the younger group by including one or more runners from the next age group.

You must wear a Stockport Harriers vest in the race.

If you are interested and are available to run on 16 May, please send the following to Steve Shaughnessy at sshaughnessy [at] btinternet [dot] com not later than Friday, 3 April.

  1. Your name, email address and mobile number
  2. Date of Birth
  3. England Athletics Licence Number
  4. Provide an estimate of your expected 5k time in your current condition

We will notify everyone who has expressed an interest of the teams that will be entered by Monday, 13 April.
