Stockport Harriers’ Race Series - Race 2

Report: Tony Park -

Wilmslow Half Marathon

The second event of our ‘Race Series’ took place on Sunday with 19 runners taking part, 13 of which were racing for the first time in the ‘Series’ indicating early on that runners are being selective in their race selection.

Looking at the awful weather on Saturday, it was predicted to be similar on Sunday but apart from a mini hail storm, the rain held off although it was still cold and windy. As usual the organisation, support and marshalling was first class and our thanks go to Wilmslow Running Club for an outstanding event with some PB’s being achieved by many on a fast route.

It will be interesting to watch the selection process unfold once the Manchester and London Marathons are completed next month.

Six runners, Robert Goulsbra, Richard Marlton, David Mellor, Jill Tavini, Karl Tavini and Barry Thompson have competed in both of our first two events and so have plenty of points tucked away. But remember, it is your best eight results that count at the end of the ‘Race Series’ so plenty of time yet.

Here are the results from Sunday:

100 - Paul Payne - 1:18:26
99 - Richard Marlton - 1:18:57
98 - Charlie Batho - 1:20:20
97 - Robert Goulsbra - 1:21:14
96 - Phil Burns - 1:22:23
95 - Karl Tavini - 1:23:21
94 - Steve Shaughnessy - 1:26:18
93 - Kerrie Wood-Doyle - 1:29:18
92 - Alison Duckworth - 1:34:07
91 - David Mellor - 1:34:54
90 - Jill Tavini - 1:38:15
89 - Tony Park - 1:40:41
88 - Paul Corner - 1:40:48
87 - Amanda Trivett - 1:41:42
86 - Andrew Mainwaring - 1:42:12
85 - Claire MacNeill - 1:44:13
84 - Helen Todd - 1:46:25
83 - Sara Taylor - 1:49:55
82 - Barry Thompson - 1:58:15

Congratulations go to Paul Payne who came home with a time of 1:18:26 and saw 100 points added to his total, but well done to all the runners and we now look forward to the 3rd event which is the 'Whitley 10k' on the 13th of April.

Finally, it is a requirement to wear your Stockport Harriers vest at all events. This is simply to ensure that people know who they are competing against. If you need a vest they are available in the Club House or from the Sweatshop Store.

Good Luck to all the Marathon runners and see you at Whitley!
