Coaching

Whichever event you are interested in, the club provides free coaching on a weekly basis. Some groups get together more than once a week, meeting up at the weekend, to take part in competitions or just to train. Whatever your level of commitment there is a place for you.

Coaching is provided for the following events

  • Track events for all ages
  • Javelin, discus, shot and hammer throwing
  • Distance/middle distance running

For junior members, dedicated coaches offer a wide-ranging introduction to athletics which continues throughout the year.

And, if you want to meet a group of joggers to keep you company you will find them. Men and women of all ages and abilities run together for fun; most of them are not chasing gold medals!

If you have never been a member of an athletics club before do not be deterred. One visit to a club evening on Tuesday or Thursday will demonstrate that not all members are finely tuned athletes.

Andrew Mihranian's Junior Training Group

We are an inclusive, multi-event, athletics training group, for all ages. Based in Stockport, we train at Woodbank Athletics Stadium & Park.

The coaching and training approach is athlete centred and is focused on developing fundamental movement skills and technique across ten different events. This is achieved through variety, in a constructive, organised, progressive manner, within a FUN, encouraging and positive environment.

Junior Boys' Group (over-11s)

Mike Doyle - UKA Level 4 Endurance Coach, Qualified Teacher, experienced endurance athlete.

Nicola Pickford - UKA Level 2 + Strength and Conditioning coach, Qualified Teacher, experienced track athlete and Qualified Physiotherapist.
Kerrie Wood -Doyle - experienced endurance athlete, Qualified Teacher and Fitness Coach.

We aim to support young endurance athletes by considering their long-term development. We also think running should be fun and want to encourage positive sporting values in all members of the group.

We are trying to develop a squad that will compete together on the track, over cross country and in road relays.

In order to be able to offer the individual support to the boys, we want to keep the squad size to a manageable number; there are also safety issues to consider, especially on occasions when there is only one adult available to oversee the group. Regrettably this means that the group is only available by prior arrangement and we are unable to guarantee a place to everyone.

David Jackson’s Junior Multi-Events Group

Boys and Girls aged 7-13

All athletes receive training in running, jumping and throwing. The sessions are intended to spark an enthusiasm and enjoyment of athletics in all it's forms. Children are encouraged to compete for the club in events such as Sportshall indoor athletics (Greater Manchester League), cross country (Stockport Schools) and track and field (including the Stockport Harriers Quadrathlon, Cheshire League, YDL and open competitions).

Coaching is from a variety of Junior and Senior coaches lead by an experienced Level 2 Coach and Primary School Teacher.
